I joined Archerfield around the same time as joining NBGC and Renaissance in 2009. Archerfield has two courses, and a lovely clubhouse with great dining. The complex overall is very good. There is a terrific practice facility, and excellent lodgings to rent. Archerfield has two good courses: Dirleton and Fidra.
I had a bunch of guys over at the house in Gullane in September 2019, and we played Fidra. I had my second ever hole in one on 13. Nice.
Fidra in my view is the better of the two courses - not just because I got lucky and hit that hole in one - but it snakes its way through trees, and greens are guarded by innocuous bunkers that are very sneaky, and the greens for the most part are very hard to hold.
Archerfield sold some land for house building, but the timing was awful and they were stuck with a "village" of huge homes with fantastic specs no-one seemed to want for some time. Now the place is well established. Other homes being built near the shore are much nicer and even more expensive. I think you would have to have a spare L 1-2m to buy the plot and build the house.
