Hi.

Welcome to my blog.

Plantation, Sea Island

I played here in 2016, again in 2019, and later in 2021, a guest of my dear friend, OT.

This is a picture of me in 2016. I assumed that a real estate guy from NY would never win The Presidency of the US….

The weather in November 2019 was unseasonably cold and wet. I really did not get many pictures due to the weather:

These are some details about the Sea Island area in general: Since 1928, Sea Island has been known as an exceptional destination appealing to those who appreciate gracious service and heartfelt hospitality.  With four Forbes Five-Star experiences — The Cloister at Sea Island, The Lodge at Sea Island, The Spa at Sea Island, and the Georgian Room restaurant – Sea Island entices families, outdoor enthusiasts, and those simply wanting to refresh. It is the only resort in the world to have received four Forbes Five-Star awards for eleven consecutive years.  As the only U.S. resort to host a G-8 Summit of world leaders, Sea Island provides exceptional settings and service for conferences and executive retreats.

Located on the southeastern coast of Georgia, Sea Island features five miles of private beach, a Beach Club, tennis center, Yacht Club, Shooting School, and children’s programs, as well as three championship golf courses, including Seaside and Plantation, home of the PGA TOUR’s RSM Classic.  Located on St. Simons Island, The Inn at Sea Island offers casual accommodations with access to many Sea Island amenities.  Broadfield, a Sea Island Sporting Club and Lodge, offers seasonal hunting and fishing opportunities.

Recent enhancements at The Lodge include six new cottages with 14 sleeping rooms, an oceanfront pool, pool house, and 18-hole putting course. Early 2019 brought an all-new, 17,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Golf Performance Center.

Those seeking adventures in the spirit of the American west may choose to visit The Broadmoor, the other member of the Sea Island family.

Plantation was originally built in 1928 as a 9 hole course then renovated by Davis Love, local boy made good: Inspired by the traditional profile of Walter Travis’ 1928 original nine-hole course, the new Plantation Course has reopened after a complete redesign by Davis and Mark Love of Love Golf Design. It’s truly been a labor of love – a vision and an on-going conversation between brothers who have transformed the course they grew up playing more times than they can count. You’ll now find the Principal’s Nose on #10 green and a few of Travis’ chocolate drops here and there, along with phenomenal views of the ocean. It is a course you’ll want to play again and again.

The renovations that have been done since last I was here are truly spectacular. They have done a really great job.

We played in November 2019, and ran into some very unseasonal weather: cold, windy and rain. About 20 degrees lower than normal. Still we have fun. I shot a 78. I gave away at least 6 silly shots. And that score sounds good but the renovations made the course much easier: the slope is only 119.

Playing again in September 2021, you could really see the differences: lots of bunkers removed. I did find the greens hard to get the pace right, but this is a very enjoyable course to start out if you are playing a few in the area. The highlight was my 220 yard 3 wood to 8 feet of the pin on 18 - par 5 - and just to keep me grounded I missed the eagle putt of course, but otherwise I very much enjoyed playing the course again.

Here’s some pics I took: the sunsets here are just amazing..
