Hi.

Welcome to my blog.

Old Oaks

Old Oaks Country Club in Purchase is a classic Westchester New York Club - it’s fantastic. I played here years ago with a couple of Directors of Funds I managed at the time, and most recently played it with three fellow Members from Winged Foot when our Club was closed for the US Open in 2020. Most recently, I scored for the MGA at a PGA Qualifying event.

Here’s a link to the Club’s excellent website: https://www.oldoakscc.org

The Club was founded in 1925, and Tillinghast designed a truly magnificent course over lovely countryside. The Clubhouse is quite magnificent: this is from the website - The Old Oaks clubhouse was designed by the firm of Wood and Palmer and was built as a country residence for Trenor Luther Park (1861-1907) who worked and lived in New York City. Construction began in 1890 and it took three years to complete the main house, gate houses, and the stables. The estate was known as Hill Crest. Beatrix Cadwalader Jones Farrand, the designer of the Jacqueline Kennedy and West Rose Gardens at the White House in Washington, D.C., was commissioned to design the grounds.

This picture i took doesn’t do justice to the Clubhouse:

I played with Clarke, Townie and my partner Mark D. A resounding 2 up victory and lunch on them. Such a gorgeous course covering acres of land.

This Club is definitely one to play. I really enjoyed the experience. The staff were terrific, although I’d say the starter fitted in the bit crotchety mould you sometimes find in Scotland.
