Gill and I played Craigielaw in August 2021. Graigielaw is relatively new and is seperated by a fence from the delightful Kilspindie Club in Aberlady. I would definitely add this to the list to play if you are going to be in East Lothian. We both thought the course was really good, a great layout, tough greens but all in great shape. Lots of bunkers reachable off the tees and around the greens. And the views across the Forth and towards Edinburgh and Gullane are terrific.

Designed by Donald Steel & Co. the course opened in 2001 and in this short period has been host to many national events, including the 2006 Scottish Amateur Strokeplay Championship and was a qualifying course for the 2007 British Seniors Open at Muirfield.
With challenging greens, cavernous bunkers and spectacular views over the Firth of Forth, Gullane Hill and out towards Edinburgh and Fife, Craigielaw Golf Club is an experience not to be missed.
Here’s a couple of pics of the Clubhouse and Lodge:
These are a few pics we took. It’s too bad the iPhone doesn’t have a better telephoto as the views across to Fife and Edinburgh were really amazing.
Ok I did not take that last one. It doesn’t do justice to the layout: the front 9 are over towards Gullane, and then the course loops between some houses that were built as part of the golf course construction. Some are pretty cool with sensational views. It seemed like the only hole we did not have the word in our face was the par 5 11th. I think that was my only birdie.
We also stayed after for dinner. Changing rooms and showers are ok. We thought the food was quite good, and the wait staff were terrific; there’s also a pretty cool lounge area also with great views over the course and out to the Firth.
You can also stay at the Club. The Lodge has 30 bedrooms. I had friends stay here several years ago and they really liked it.
Overall, I’d say this was really a nice set up. It’s in a great location, easy access to Gullane and North Berwick. In town there’s Duck’s restaurant and bar. It is pretty nicely located for golf across East Lothian.
