Hi.

Welcome to my blog.

Beekman

Beekman Golf is located off the Taconic at Hopewell junction in New York. We played it just once, back in 2009. It was a fun day, as we joined up with 3 other couples on our way up to a friends place upstate.

It’s a nice set up with three 9 hole courses to play. The back tees measure around 6600 yards. I wouldn’t suggest going out of your way to play this place, but if you are heading somewhere and are on the Taconic, why not? The staff are extremely friendly.

We played  once and it was fun almost all the way around until we ran into a spot of bother on the short 16th hole i think; it's hard to know exactly which one as there are three nine hole courses. So my buddy who shall remain nameless hits a great shot to the green but hits it so well it goes long, bounces off a cart path and into a group on the next tee. I think it hit one of the guys on the leg. We did not know at the time, but we sure heard about it from the archetypal short loud mouth member of the group; it wasn't him who was hit, naturally, but man did he have an anger management problem as well as being challenged linguistically. As my buddy went to retrieve his ball and realized what had happened and began to apologize, short loud and angry man (SLAM) announced IF he had been hit HE would have beaten the crap out of my buddy AND we collectively ought to have known better as we were wearing posh golf gear. That was a first, and am glad to report the last time I have heard that one! And that's one of the key downsides of this golf course: there are just a bunch of idiots who would be better off staying home. We played out the hole, watching with some amusement as SLAM topped his drive and proceeded to probably take a 9 on the next hole - recorded as a 4 of course - a real prize idiot.

Nestled at the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains, lies one of New York State’s most spectacular public 27 hole golf courses. Converted from pasture land in 1963, our USGA-rated, par 72 golf course is conveniently located in Dutchess County just north of the Junction of Route 84 and the Scenic Taconic State Parkway. Our three signature courses wind their way along the Taconic, through the Valley, and over the Highlands with spectacular mountain and valley views from many holes.
