Hi.

Welcome to my blog.

Portpatrick Dunskey Golf Club

I stopped in to see this Club on a short vacation we were having in Galloway in December 2021. Portpatrick is a very cool little seaside town, nice harbour, some good little hotels with bars and lounges, plus the town is overlooked by the magnificent looking Portpatrick hotel. (https://www.mcmillanhotels.co.uk/hotels/fernhill-hotel).

The Golf course was founded in 1903, but became fully established when In 1971 the club aquired the Dunskey course for £18000 and in 1981 when the 9 hole Dinvin Course was purchased for £28000. What a bargain! The course is located on land a couple of hundred feet above the sea and I imagine could be real tough to play when its breezy.

This is from the club’s website: “Overlooking the North Channel to Ireland, Portpatrick Dunskey enjoys a temperate climate due to the Gulf Stream and is playable all year round. The Dunskey 18-hole, and the Dinvin 9-hole courses, which are a mixture of rolling moorland and seaside heath sit around 150 feet above sea level. Both courses offer spectacular views and on clear days the Isle of Man, Mourne Mountains and Mull of Kintyre can be seen.

The Dunksey 18-hole course represents a challenge to all levels of golfer whilst taking in breath-taking scenery as it meanders through the rugged terrain. The Dinvin is one of the best kept golfing secrets; an interesting and unique 9-hole par 3 course ideal for testing one’s short game in links-style surroundings. Portpatrick’s attractive clubhouse offers a well-appointed lounge, perfect for relaxing pre or post round. The clubhouse’s panoramic windows boast excellent views across the golf course and beyond into the surrounding, picturesque countryside”.

I was made to feel very welcome and am sorry I did not have more time to play.
