Hi.

Welcome to my blog.

Eyemouth Golf club

I was invited to play here with John Gallagher. John is a former Scottish Amateur Champion (2007) and has a terrific game; he also plays cross handed, with his left hand lower than his right. Try it sometime! It feels completely awkward to me of course, but John can really strike the golf ball and his short game is terrific. I did my best to stay relevant for maybe 12 holes before the course began to catch me out and I made a couple of bad club selections, and my putting deserted me again. Anyway, 6 over is not bad on a new and interesting course. My daughter introduced me to John as she had arranged some promotional golf featuring John for a hotel chain she was working for at the time.

Eyemouth is around an hour south from Edinburgh, and sits on the East Coast of Scotland, not too far from the border with England.

The course plays across and up a steep hill on the Berwickshire coastline, offering spectacular views, as well as huge exposure to the prevailing winds of course… “remarkable views, remarkable challenges”. Too true.

This is from the Club’s website:

At Eyemouth Golf Club you will find a challenging 18 hole Championship golf course that will not only test all your golfing skills but will also excite your senses.

Located on the cliff tops of the spectacular Berwickshire coastline, Eyemouth Golf Club is one of the few courses that can boast round the year golf.  If you want to keep your game honed during the winter then why not take up our very competitive Winter Membership offer, when available. (see our Members page).

The course offers the discerning golfer the challenge of playing two, yes two, very special holes. The 6th ‘A Still No Ken’ voted ‘Britain’s No1 Most Extraordinary Golf Hole’ and now selected by Visit Scotland as one of the top 18 holes in Scotland. (Golf in Scotland 2015) and the 13th the ‘Hawkness’ Monster Scotland’s longest golf hole at 656 off the tiger tees.

Here’s a couple of pics I took - you can see we had another spectacular day to play golf:

The Hawk Ness is indeed quite long although down a steep hill. I shot par so it cannot be that difficult… .

Fun course to play, lovely views. Greens as undulating as the surrounding sea, with some that are really quite challenging. Uphill and down dale so be prepared for a good walk. The staff in the pro shop and restuarant were really very nice. The food was excellent too. It’s a fishing village, so you know what to order.
