Hi.

Welcome to my blog.

Abernethy Golf Club

Not sure many will find their way here if coming from the US to play golf in Scotland, but we were heading west after Cruden Bay and stopped in at the NethyBridge hotel, near Aviemore, and saw the golf course. We had arrived early after a wonderful trip through Speyside, punctuated by famous and less well known Distilleries, including Glenfiddich and Knocando. That’s a trip for another time and for those who imbibe the amber nectar.

We stayed at the NethyBridge hotel. Another one of those old creaky places first built by the railway companies. It must have been amazing when it was built, but now is rather sad, run down and in need of some major renovation.

Here’s a link to the hotel, part of the Strathmore hotel chain: https://strathmorehotels-nethybridge.com.

The golf course is 9 holes, and short and tight. A lot of fun to play with maybe 4 clubs only. Cost me L20 to play. This link will take you to the Club’s website: https://abernethygolfclub.com

This is from the Club’s website:The story of golf in Nethy Bridge opened its first chapter on July 1st 1893 when a group of around 30 golfers travelled down from Inverness to experience the new course.  We are proud members of The 1893 Club, a group of more than 50 clubs worldwide all founded in 1893.  Modern day visitors often ask why it was named Abernethy rather than Nethy Bridge since it is situated in that village.  Historically however the parish name, Abernethy, was much more commonly used.  The village name Nethy Bridge was imposed upon reluctant parishioners when the postal service was introduced to the area.

We are one of the High 9s – 9 9 hole Clubs across the Highlands where you can enjoy quality golf in unforgettable Highland settings.

Here’s some pics of the course:

There is no doubt this is a spectacular part of Scotland:

Fun to play and nice people at the Club. Good for short game practice and if you have a couple of hours to spare. There is a great cafe and I believe they have rooms as well in Nethy Bridge: https://www.nethyhouse.co.uk/.
